Hi Nancy, I just had to say hi! after seeing your comment to Janet. After travelling the US and scouring every corner we chose two wonderful llama boys and one girl from Janet and Gary to bring to New Zealand, and my goodness have we been blessed. They are the most wonderful people and their quality has done wonders for our lovely llama herd. It has been bliss all the way.

Hi Nancy. No the vets are not good over here but the British Alpaca Society do help if I need them to answer questions.
I love my alpacas and now have 24 with the two additional female crias from this year.
I have just had most of them sheared so they don't look quite as cute as before but it will soon grow back. Thanks

I owe you a long email, but it's May in Indy and I've been so busy with race coverage on top of all my other stuff, I haven't had time. Soon, I promise. How are things up there??

Halter training is always a bit hit or miss, depending on the personality of the cria in training! I've only ever had real problems with 1 cria in the past 9 years, but we worked it out after a lot of training sessions. Keep at it and be patient...they'll get it eventually! Sounds like the others are doing great, though.

Well, they ended up cancelling the show. I was so disappointed! I still had a great time being home on break though- spent the whole week obstacle/pack training my performance alpaca and a little male llama I sold, grooming 2 llamas for our next show, and just enjoying being on the farm again! My parents are taking 2 of our llamas to a show in 2 weeks, and I hope to be able to show once I get home for the summer.

Hi Nancy, Thanks for the welcome. Yes, that was a big herd. We actually had 350 llamas for over 15 years. We have never had a single full time employee in all these 26 years. Feels good to only have 38 or so.

Farm sitting - good idea - needed service -maybe you need to define your service area - kinda like pizza delivery?

Wonder if I could ge my brother to think about doing that kind of work in a defined service area. He has sat for me a couple of times - but, I provide housing here as he lives over 1.5 hrs away - Guess some folks commute worse than that, tho.

Thanks Nancy. I have attended in the past. I'll try to make it. My shearer comes that weekend to do the alpacas.
