Dawn of Promise Farm in Battle Ground, Indiana, is hosting a workshop on June 14, 2009, at 2 p.m., on showing llamas in showmanship and obstacle courses. This beginner workshop will be conducted by experienced showman and llama trainer, Emaly Leak,…
Indiana has a Morrow County? That's where we are in OH - in Morrow Cty near Mt Gilead and close to Lexington in Richland Co OH. Our Morrow Cty Fair has sheep and I usually send some Jacobs - last yr we sent 3 Navajos to compete against ourselves in the 'All other breeds' classes-neighbor boy helped show.
In 1999 our fair had a big 3-day llama show which is where I first got to touch such a fine creature - then did not get any until we got the sheep and needed guards. Now have 2 camelids for every sheep - it seems.
Shows: Indiana has at least three good ones - Lisa can advise. MI also has a lot of shows as does OH - but you need to get vet papers to travel - so, unless you re a vet or just want to go and watch, it can be an extra burden. May be worth it to go to the Regional ALSA show here - but gotta be a member of that!
Do you know Susan and Chuck Murray in Wakeman OH? They have Navajo-Churro sheep and Susan lived and taught on the reservation in her earlier life. She is a fiber expert.
Hi - do you know Lisa Alayza nr Indianapolis? Don't think she has joined yet. I bought a dam and son from her in 2007 and talk to her often by phone as she knows A LOT about camelids. I think she lived in S. America for awhile and speaks Spanish. She is a teacher when not doing llama work and has a daughter ~ 16 who's a musician and more. If you are in ILR - you can look her up there. There are other really experienced people in IN - Lisa just happens to be the one I know.
I also have Jacob sheep and have met with Carl Fosbrink in Seymour IN about them. These are rarish sheep.
