Hi Everyone!
I'm excited to see that the Suri Llama Group is the fastest growing group on Lama Journal! I'm a Board member of the Suri Llama Association and Board Liasion to the SLA Show Committee and SLA Marketing Committee. The Show Committee had it's first meeting and we are getting things rolling to have an ALL SURI LLAMA SHOW!!!

I'm interested to hear what your thoughts and comments are about having an all Suri LLama Show and showing Suri Llamas! If you wish to email me directly please do so at amylynn1124@aol.com

I look forward to hearing from everyone!
Thanks,
Amy Serridge

Hi Amy,
I'm a big fan of the suri Llamas myself and we are breeding mostly for suri fiber on our farm. We are
members of the SLA and I'm in the fiber committee because we love the beauty of the suris!
So please, don't get me wrong with what my thoughts on an "All Suri Llama Show" are. I find, the
Llama industry is facing quite a difficult time and not enough young or new people are joining the
Llama community. So we realy have to stick together and show everybody out there what great animals
our Llamas are, if they are fluffy, silky, suri, packing animals, show animals or pets. I think the slogan
"Together we will survive, together we are strong" is extremely important and it fits the owners of the
different typs of Llamas so well. In my mind, these different typs of fiber just make the Llamas more
attractive to some people and why would we not want to show off all of them?
I'm really interested in reading more peoples comments on this topic. Ruth

That sounds like a great idea! Showing alpacas and llamas has been a bit challenging with major shows coinciding on key weekends, and getting the word out extra early may allow some of this to put this event on our schedule first.

Love to go to shows but have to tend the farm and do it all myself - so, am limited to shows nearby. I will send 2 suris to the Daffodil Classic 4/11 in Cochocton OH that will be shown by my co-owner Connie. I have another same age surri boy but he won't go as there is not need to compete against her - will show a couple MW boys.

The Ohio State Fair had suri classes last year as did the ORVLA June Solstiace show - went to both and took suris but always placed last as I am not known and it seems to be a factor here - plus I was NOT pleased with the June show judge who besides using the women's rest room moved too many MWs (4) to HW and when they got there, it was stunningly obvious that they were not HW! I told someone we need to take up a collection to get him new glasses. Yes, I do have good things to say about some judges, like Patty Fisher, Mary Reed and Barb Baker - funny that these are all women.

Just making sure we have suri shows in all the regions would be good - or look where the concentration of farms lie.

I agree with Ruth Zimmerman. I think different types of llamas call to different people. Some people like the classics because they are good packers, and you don't have to shear them often...sometimes ever!...depending on the climate.

Others like the heavy wools...the downside is that you sometimes have to shear them...frequently.

I personally like the silkies (and appys). Sooo....I have acquired a reverse appy suri to breed for the silkies with my appy females, be they light, medium or heavy wooled. I take the large american females and breed to suri appy male...hoping to get nice fiber in a well conformed appaloosa/merle package. We'll see what happens.
