I have just signed up to this group. I am a hand spinner, knitter/crocheter, and teach seminars on Value Added Marketing in reference to fiber from your animals. We also have a mill, Going to the Sun Fiber Mill in Kalispell, MT. I have started a question in the Discussion Forum above.

Coming to Youngs Jersy Dairy Sept 19-20 the annual A Wool Gathering - a fiber show with both vendors and live animals, including a sheep shearing demo. This event is near Xenia on OH 68 south from I-70.

I will be taking both Jacob and Navajo-Churro sheep to exhibit. There should be someone there with llamas and sometimes there are rabbits!

I am told tha the Ohio Farm Science Review will be the NEXT week at London OH usually mid week Tue-Thu. Doug and Gail Targett of Ohio River Valley Llama Assn are handling the ORVLA booth and someone will have llamas or alpacas there too. Reach the Targetts at Gail/Doug Targett.

We will be shearing next Tue and Wed here in Morrow Co OH -bringing in Chereen Thompson from near Toledo. Several fleeces are already spoken for but there will be others, both silky and suri llamas and a few huacaya from the 5 alpaca girls. If you would like to invite yourself to attend or meet the shearer, be forewarned you may be drafted to work fetching animals, drawing vaccines or bagging fiber. We are located nr Johnsville also called Schauk at the OH314-US42 intersect. We also have raw Jacob and Navajo fiber from the sheep sheared 5/4.

I spin, knit, and weave with fiber from my llamas and alpacas. Take a look at the new album on my page...it has photos of some of the crafts I have made over the years. I also sell my items on Etsy (shop name: Autumnhillllamas).

Are there any handspinners or weavers in this group? Just curious. It would be fun to see photos of woven or knitted items. All the best, Pepper

an interesting site I found....

http://workingwithfelt.ning.com/

felt working website for fiber unthusiasts.

I'm getting prepared to apprentice judge alpacas next week and also shearing day is coming up on the 28th. I am shipping alpaca fiber to a handspinner I met online who is going to spin it in exchange fro some proportion of raw fiber. She raises sheep and goats so I will have some blends spun. I will create hats, scarves, shawls and babyclothes with our fiber, as well as dying it to create one of a kind peices. We enter fleeces in fleece shows and spin-offs.

Hi Everyone-
I'm glad that Meg & Theresa brought up this website. 2009 is the International Year of Natural Fibers which is a great way to promote both Alpacas & Llamas! WoodsEdge Farm is proud to be a part of the United Nations’ International Year of Natural Fibres which promotes sustainable fiber agriculture to reduce the carbon footprint of synthetic fibers. Everyone should visit thisite and see how natrural fibers are being promoted across the world!
Cheers,
Amy

http://www.naturalfibres2009.org

This website is available in many languages - Arabic. Chinese, Japanese, French, Italian, Spanish- 2 versions?, Russian, and English (Anglese)-so you can refer overseas friends. Sorry - I cannot read some of these. German is missing for some reason-maybe not yet.

Thanks for the alert!
